A parent of schoolchildren abducted in Borno State has appealed to President Bola Tinubu to intensify efforts to secure their release, saying families have been left in anguish as the children remain in captivity nearly 100 days after their abduction.
The children were among 42 pupils abducted on May 15, 2026, from Mussa Primary and Junior Secondary School in Askira-Uba Local Government Area of Borno State. The abduction occurred on the same day that pupils and teachers were kidnapped from schools in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State.
While the Oyo victims were rescued after spending 56 days in captivity, the Borno children have remained missing, prompting renewed concerns from their families and calls for stronger government action.
Speaking with News Central TV, one of the parents questioned why the children abducted in Oyo State had been rescued while their own children were still being held.
The parent appealed to President Tinubu to ensure that the Borno victims receive the same urgency and attention given to the Oyo case.
«“President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, what I have to tell him now, let him rule Nigeria with equal destiny, equal value.»
«“Because these are our children, they were abducted on the same day with the children of Oyo State. Well, those of Oyo State have been rescued for over a month, while our children are still in captivity for almost 100 days.”»
The parent said the prolonged captivity had left families uncertain about the condition and whereabouts of their children.
Earlier reports indicated that the Defence Headquarters had assured Nigerians that the 42 pupils had not been forgotten, while troops continued efforts to secure their safe release.
The continued captivity has renewed concerns over the safety of children in conflict-affected communities in Borno and the broader challenge of protecting schools from attacks.
Families are now urging the Federal Government to intensify intelligence gathering, rescue operations and other measures necessary to bring the children home safely.
