Residents of Tsohon Gari and neighbouring communities in Birnin Kudu Local Government Area of Jigawa State have been advised not to panic if they hear gunfire on Sunday, as the state Police Command will conduct a routine shooting range exercise for its personnel.
The exercise is scheduled to take place on Sunday, August 2, 2026, at the CP AT Abdullahi Shooting Range in Tsohon Gari, Birnin Kudu LGA.
The advisory was contained in a statement issued on Saturday by the Police Public Relations Officer of the Jigawa State Police Command, SP Shi’isu Adam, in Dutse.
According to the statement, the exercise forms part of the Command’s regular firearms proficiency and operational training aimed at ensuring officers remain professionally prepared to respond effectively to security challenges.
“The Command wishes to inform the general public that all preparations have been concluded to conduct a shooting range exercise for its personnel on Sunday, 2nd August, 2026, at the CP AT Abdullahi Shooting Range, located at Tsohon Gari, Birnin Kudu Local Government Area,” the statement read.
The Police Command appealed to residents, commuters and members of the public to remain calm throughout the exercise, stressing that the gunfire will be part of a planned training activity and not a security emergency.
Residents were also urged to cooperate with security personnel and avoid the immediate vicinity of the shooting range while the exercise is in progress to ensure public safety.
