A former aide to the University of Calabar (UNICAL) Students’ Union Government (SUG), CyanahPEN, has appealed to well-meaning Nigerians, University of Calabar alumni, corporate organisations, and philanthropists to support Gloria, the institution’s Best Graduating Student in the Department of Chemical Engineering.
According to the appeal, Gloria has secured admission to pursue a Master’s degree in Green Engineering at a foreign university, marking another significant milestone in her academic journey. However, the financial requirements for her relocation, including visa processing, travel expenses, accommodation, and other settlement costs, remain major obstacles to achieving her dream.
Speaking on the need for support, the former SUG aide described Gloria as an exceptional ambassador of the University of Calabar and Cross River State, stressing that her academic excellence deserves encouragement rather than financial setbacks.
“Gloria represents the best of UNICAL and Cross River State. Her brilliance in Green Engineering is exactly what the modern economy needs. We cannot allow financial challenges to stop such a promising future. I appeal to public-spirited individuals, alumni, corporate organisations, and philanthropists to support Gloria’s educational journey by contributing to her fund. This will enable her to complete her travel plans, secure accommodation, and process her visa without unnecessary hardship,” the statement read.
The fundraising initiative, known as Gloria’s Fund, was created to remove the financial barriers standing between the outstanding graduate and her postgraduate studies abroad, ensuring that academic excellence is rewarded with meaningful opportunities.
