Nollywood actress and filmmaker, Toyin Abraham, has explained why she rejected her reported inclusion in the Lagos State All Progressives Congress (APC) Campaign Council ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Abraham said she was listed in the campaign structure without her knowledge and reiterated that she has no interest in participating in politics at the moment.
Her name had appeared under the Entertainment and Creative Economy Directorate of the Lagos APC campaign council, alongside several prominent actors and entertainers.
However, the actress distanced herself from the appointment in an Instagram Story on Thursday, urging the public to disregard her reported inclusion.
“I’m not a member of any campaign council. I have said it recently. I am staying out of politics. Please disregard the supposed inclusion of my name in any campaign committee,” she wrote.
On Friday, Abraham further clarified her position on X while responding to a user who suggested that her decision could prevent her from being targeted by online critics.
The user, Foundational Nupe Lawyer, wrote, “I hope this stops the bullies from bullying her, but I know for sure, they will never stop.”
Responding, Abraham said her decision had nothing to do with online criticism.
“Bro, I didn’t do it because of any bully. I did it because it was the right thing to do. I woke up and saw my name on a list I knew absolutely nothing about.
“Moreover, I’ve already said it—I’m not interested in politics. Lawyer Nupe I love u and thanks for love and support,” she said.
The Lagos APC campaign structure was unveiled on Thursday, with the Entertainment and Creative Economy Directorate headed by Toke Benson-Awoyinka as Director. Veteran actor Jide Kosoko was named Co-Director, while actress Eniola Badmus was listed as Deputy Director.
Other entertainment personalities listed in the directorate include Bimbo Akintola, Adebayo Salami, Saheed Balogun, Bukky Wright, Yinka Quadri, Fathia Balogun, Pasuma, Obesere, Adewale Ayuba and Small Doctor.
Abraham previously supported President Bola Tinubu during the 2023 presidential election, a move that attracted significant criticism on social media. She has since indicated that she intends to stay away from partisan politics.
Despite her rejection, Abraham’s name remains on the published campaign council document, although she has made it clear that she does not consider herself a member of the council.
