The Ondo State Security Network Agency, popularly known as Amotekun Corps, has rescued two teenage Fulani herders who were abducted by suspected kidnappers in a forest along the Ondo–Edo State boundary.
The victims, identified as Abubakar Umaru and Abdullahi Umaru, were reportedly grazing cattle in Owo Local Government Area when they were attacked and taken into the forest by their abductors.
Speaking on Tuesday, the Commander of the Amotekun Corps, Adetunji Adeleye, said the rescue operation was launched after the boys’ parents raised the alarm over their failure to return home with their cattle.
According to Adeleye, the corps immediately mobilised its operatives to comb the forest following the report, leading to the successful rescue of the two teenagers and the recovery of the cattle.
He described the incident as unusual, noting that while the corps has rescued many kidnapping victims in the past, the case stood out because the victims were young Fulani herders who were abducted while carrying out their daily activities.
Adeleye reiterated the agency’s commitment to protecting all residents of the state, regardless of ethnicity or occupation, and urged members of the public to promptly report suspicious activities to security agencies to aid swift intervention.
The rescued boys have since been reunited with their families, while efforts are ongoing to track down and arrest the suspected kidnappers.
