The Vice Chancellor of the University of Calabar, Prof. Offiong Efanga Offiong, has constituted a new Academic Board for the University’s Open and Distance Learning Centre (ODLC), in a move aimed at strengthening academic governance and improving the administration of the Centre.
The constitution of the Board was conveyed in a letter signed by the University Registrar, Dr. Chukwuka I. Icha.
According to the letter, the Academic Board will oversee and make decisions and recommendations on a wide range of academic matters concerning the Centre. These include students’ affairs, counselling, library and learning resources, learning material delivery, textbooks, training and capacity development, students’ assessment, as well as other academic issues relating to the ODLC.
The Board will be chaired by the Director of the Open and Distance Learning Centre, Prof. Stella Asibong Ansa, while the Deputy Director, Prof. Kevin Usman Anoh, will serve as a member alongside other officials drawn from relevant academic and administrative units of the University.
Other members of the Board are the Dean of the Faculty of Administration and Management Sciences, Prof. Ezekiel Tom Ebitu; Head of the Department of Business Management, Dr. Sunny Isaac Eneh; University Librarian, Prof. Aniebiet Ntui; Programme Coordinator, Dr. Hope Edodi; and Examination Officer, Dr. Stephen Magor Ellah.
Dr. Amah E. Etim will serve as the Administrative Secretary of the Board.
The University Management directed the newly constituted Board to take necessary steps towards its formal inauguration and ensure that its activities comply with the University’s statutes, regulations, policies and established academic procedures.
Management also reaffirmed its continued support for the Open and Distance Learning Centre, stressing its commitment to the effective operation and further development of the Centre.
