The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has taken delivery of five new helicopters as part of the Federal Government’s efforts to modernise the country’s airpower capabilities and strengthen the Armed Forces’ response to terrorism and other security threats.
The newly acquired aircraft comprise three AW109 Trekker Type B helicopters manufactured by Leonardo Helicopters of Italy and two H125 helicopters produced by Airbus Helicopters.
The acquisition is expected to enhance the Nigerian Air Force’s operational capabilities and improve its ability to support ongoing security operations across the country.
The helicopters will add to the service’s aviation assets and support a range of missions, including surveillance, reconnaissance, troop support, search and rescue, and other military operations, depending on their configuration and deployment.
The development is part of the Federal Government’s broader efforts to equip the Armed Forces with modern platforms and improve their readiness to tackle terrorism, insurgency, banditry and other security challenges.
The Nigerian Air Force has continued to prioritise the expansion and modernisation of its fleet, alongside improved training, maintenance and technical support for personnel and equipment.
The latest acquisition is expected to contribute to the service’s efforts to strengthen air operations and support ground troops in the fight against insecurity.
