The Bayelsa State Police Command has presented cheques worth N2,483,354.01 to families of deceased police officers and personnel who sustained injuries while performing their duties.
The cheques were presented on Tuesday by the Commissioner of Police, CP Ajao Adewale, on behalf of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu.
The payment was made under the Group Life Assurance, Group Personal Accident and IGP Family Welfare Schemes, which provide financial support to police personnel and their families in cases involving death or injuries sustained in the line of duty.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Musa Mohammed, who disclosed the development in a statement issued on Wednesday on behalf of the commissioner, the gesture was part of efforts by the Nigeria Police Force to support families affected by the loss or injury of its personnel.
The presentation also highlighted the welfare provisions available to officers who make sacrifices while carrying out their responsibilities.
CP Adewale, while presenting the cheques, reaffirmed the command’s commitment to the welfare of police personnel and their dependants.
The beneficiaries expressed appreciation for the financial assistance, which is expected to provide some support to the affected families and injured officers.
The development comes amid continued efforts by the police authorities to strengthen welfare measures for personnel serving across the country.
