Oyo Targets Hotels, Lounges as State Tightens Hospitality Regulation

Written by Mary Bassey

The Oyo State Government has announced plans to bring hotels, lounges and other hospitality businesses across the state under a more structured registration and regulatory system.

The Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Dr Wasiu Olatubosun, disclosed this during the Oyo State Tourism and Hospitality Conference organised by the state Ministry of Culture and Tourism in collaboration with ITC Advisory Services.

The conference, held in Ibadan, brought together stakeholders in the tourism and hospitality industry to discuss the development, regulation and security of the sector.

Olatubosun said the move would help the government obtain accurate data on hospitality businesses, improve revenue collection and strengthen coordination with security agencies.

The initiative is also expected to ensure that hospitality establishments are properly documented, registered and regulated across the state.

The ministry also introduced new digital products at the conference, including the Oyo State Guests Identity Verification System (OGIV), Open School Field, Stayflow and Oyo Booking.

According to the ministry, the platforms are designed to support proper documentation and licensing of tourists, tourist centres and hospitality facilities while improving security and coordination within the sector.

The conference also provided an opportunity for operators and other stakeholders to engage with the government on issues affecting the hospitality industry.

The state government said the broader regulatory drive is aimed at creating a more organised hospitality sector while supporting tourism development and improving the safety of visitors and residents.

Oyo has in recent years continued to position tourism and hospitality as important parts of its economic development strategy, with the government seeking greater collaboration between public authorities and private-sector.
