The administration of senator(Prof) Ben Ayade has created enabling environment for Local Governments officials including elected officers to receive trainings aimed at building their capacity for adequate service delivery in the local Government councils.

It is this bold steps of the governor that has led to the realisation of the radical approach towards the building of key local Government personnel\’s in the unified local government service of Cross River State, as there is the notion that the Nigerian local Government system has not paid adequate attention to the issue of staff training and capacity building as it should be.

The deputy Governor of Cross River State, Prof. Ivara Ejemot Esu stated this while he  flagged off a four days workshop for effective service delivery for staff of the unified local Government service.

He encouraged the officers who received the training to go back to their councils and train those working under them. He mentioned that the state government in conjunction with the local Government council is injecting fresh personnels into the system through employment of new staff who would replace the vacuum of retirees who have meritoriously served the service for thirty five or sixty years.

The chairman of Cross River State local Government service commission Mr.Peter Adigeb said the workshop is aimed at training principal staff of the local government to be teeming with modern administrative skills, while applauding the deputy Governor for approving the exercise and urged all participants to take the training serious as it will sharpen their knowledge with for effective service to the local Government service.

The Head of service of Cross River State, Mr. Timothy Ogbang Akwaji appreciated the presence of the deputy Governor Prof.Ivara Esu and further said the local Government service Commission is responsible for recruitment, promotion, discipline and trainings which the workshop is to ensure the success of the mandate of the local Government service Commission as they are at the verge of recalibrating the service to make it productive to meet the expectations of the Govt and people of Cross River State, adding that it is based on this fact that the resource persons were carefully selected as well as the topics.

Mr. Akwaji said irrespective of the placement of the state in the nation revenue chat and suffocating debt, payment of salaries and pensions have been hitch free In the state while issues of gratuities are been addressed.
