Apple’s First Foldable iPhone Faces Early Screen Problems as Company Offers Replacements

Written by Mary Bassey

Apple has offered replacements for some of its newly launched iPhone Duo devices after customers reported cracks and unusual lines appearing on the inner display, raising early concerns about the durability of the company’s first foldable smartphone.

The technology giant acknowledged the issue on Monday, October 26, 2026, days after the device went on sale. Apple said a small number of units had been affected and advised customers experiencing display problems to contact AppleCare for replacement assistance.

Reports shared on social media showed cracks and bright lines appearing around the central hinge, where the phone folds. Some users claimed the damage occurred within hours of receiving their devices, with a few reporting unusual resistance or a cracking sound while opening the phone.

The cause of the problem has not been confirmed by Apple. However, repair specialists at iFixit examined the device’s internal structure and suggested that a component around the hinge could be creating pressure on the display. The explanation remains a theory and has not been confirmed by the company.

The reports emerged shortly after the iPhone Duo’s launch on October 23, when initial online orders reportedly sold out quickly amid limited supplies. The device unfolds like a small book, giving users a larger internal screen for apps and other activities.

Apple has not disclosed the exact number of affected devices or announced a confirmed technical fix. For now, customers experiencing cracks, lines or other inner-display faults have been advised to contact AppleCare for assistance.

The early reports present a challenge for Apple as it enters the competitive foldable smartphone market, where screen durability remains a major concern for manufacturers and consumers.
