Sokoto State Governor, Ahmed Aliyu, has doubled the monthly allowance paid to National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members serving in the state, increasing it from ₦10,000 to ₦20,000.
The governor also announced a one-time cash gift of ₦30,000 for every corps member currently undergoing the NYSC orientation exercise in the state.
Aliyu made the announcements on Friday, November 6, 2026, during the swearing-in ceremony of the 2026 Batch C Stream II corps members at the NYSC Temporary Orientation Camp, College of Administration, Umaru Shinkafi Polytechnic, Sokoto.
According to reports, the governor said the decision was part of his administration’s commitment to improving the welfare of corps members and providing a conducive environment for their service year.
Beyond the financial benefits, Aliyu also approved the donation of a Toyota Hilux vehicle to the NYSC to strengthen its monitoring and supervision activities, particularly in difficult terrains.
He further pledged to provide five cows daily to feed corps members throughout the orientation exercise.
The governor also directed the management of the institution hosting the camp to urgently address challenges relating to electricity and water supply.
He disclosed that his administration had committed over ₦1 billion to the renovation and upgrading of the permanent NYSC orientation camp in Wamakko Local Government Area, with the project reportedly about 90 per cent complete.
Aliyu assured the corps members that their security and welfare would remain a priority, while encouraging them to embrace national unity, discipline and dedication throughout their service year.
The announcement is expected to provide additional financial support and improve the welfare of corps members deployed to Sokoto State.
