ASUU-UEE Akamkpa Branch Declares 14-Day Industrial Action Over Unresolved Demands

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), University of Education and Entrepreneurship (UEE), Akamkpa Branch, has declared a 14-day industrial action following the expiration of an ultimatum issued to the university management and relevant government authorities.

The decision was announced after the Union said none of its four cardinal demands had received the substantive attention or resolution required.

Four Cardinal Demands from ASUU-UEE Akamkpa Branch

According to the ASUU-UEE Akamkpa Branch, its outstanding demands include:

1. Correction of the CONUASS implementation and payment of outstanding salary arrears.
2. Implementation of the 2025 Federal Government of Nigeria (FGN)-ASUU Agreement, particularly the Consolidated Academic Allowance and Teaching Allowance (CATA).
3. Implementation of the harmonised 70-year retirement age for Professors and Associate Professors.
4. Urgent intervention to address excessive workload and the critical shortage of academic staff in the university.

Industrial Action Begins September 10

The Branch said the decision followed the resolution of the Emergency National Executive Council (NEC) of ASUU held on September 5, 2026, as well as the unanimous resolution reached at the Emergency Congress of ASUU-UEE Akamkpa Branch on September 9, 2026.

Consequently, the Branch declared that the 14-day industrial action will commence on Thursday, September 10, 2026.

All members of the Union have been directed to fully withdraw their services and faithfully observe the industrial action throughout its duration, pending a meaningful and satisfactory resolution of the issues in dispute.

ASUU-UEE Akamkpa Seeks Dialogue

The Union stressed that the decision was not taken lightly, noting that it remains committed to dialogue and constructive engagement with the university management and relevant authorities.

The Branch expressed hope that the necessary interventions would be made to resolve the outstanding issues and restore industrial harmony within the institution.

It also called on its members to remain united, disciplined and resolute in defending the dignity of the academic profession, the welfare of members and the integrity of the university system.
