Nigeria’s efforts to achieve self-sufficiency in military equipment production have received a fresh boost as the Defence Industries Corporation of Nigeria (DICON), through its DICON-D7G initiative, unveiled plans to expand local defence manufacturing and attract foreign investment.
The initiative, announced 61 years after DICON was established, is aimed at strengthening Nigeria’s indigenous defence industry, reducing dependence on imported military equipment and creating more employment opportunities.
According to the plan, the expansion is expected to generate **7,000 jobs** for retired military personnel and civilians while providing opportunities for local expertise and private sector participation in defence production.
The initiative is also expected to encourage foreign investors to partner with Nigerian defence manufacturers, bringing in new technologies, technical knowledge and investment to improve the country’s manufacturing capacity.
The development highlights Nigeria’s renewed push to build a stronger domestic defence industry, improve military equipment production and position the country as a major player in Africa’s defence manufacturing sector.
