FIFA Withdraws Proposal to Accept External Investors After Member Opposition
FIFA has officially confirmed that it will not move forward with its proposal to accept external investors, bringing an end to the planned FIFA Forward Enterprise project.
In an official statement, the world football governing body explained that the initiative was designed to strengthen FIFA’s Member Associations and promote the growth of football worldwide, particularly in countries that require greater financial support and development.
FIFA emphasized that the proposal was always intended to proceed only if it received the backing of a majority of its Member Associations and after extensive consultations with the FIFA Council, continental confederations, and other key stakeholders.
The governing body stated that the level of disagreement had become contrary to the project’s original purpose, which was to unite football and improve the game globally.
“Our purpose has always been—and will always be—to unite and improve,” FIFA said in its statement.
As a result, the organization confirmed that the proposal to bring in external investors has been officially withdrawn.
Looking ahead, FIFA President Gianni Infantino said he intends to reunite all interested parties in the coming days and weeks to continue discussions focused on the shared goal of developing football across the world.
The organization reaffirmed its commitment to supporting Member Associations, especially those in developing football nations, while pursuing future initiatives that promote unity rather than division.
The decision marks a significant shift in FIFA’s strategy, with the governing body choosing consensus among its members over pursuing outside investment. FIFA now plans to continue working closely with its stakeholders to identify new ways of funding football development without compromising unity within the global game.
