The Special Adviser to the Governor on Sports Development, Hon. Ekanem Ekpenyong, recently presented gifts from the Governor of Cross River State, Apostle Sen. Prince Bassey Edet Otu, and his wife, Bishop Dr. Mrs. Eyoanwan Otu, to the people of Atan Onoyom in Odukpani Local Government Area. The event, which took place during the Yuletide season, aimed to spread goodwill and appreciation to the community.
Hon. Ekpenyong also contributed personally to the celebration by providing additional gifts. He presented 50 bags of rice, sponsored by the governor; two boats complete with engines, to enhance the community’s transportation capabilities; 10 bags of 50kg rice; and a cow, which he personally sponsored.
In his address, Hon. Ekpenyong assured the people of Atan Onoyom that, despite his busy schedule, he would always make time to visit the community, whether during the festive season or not. He emphasized that his presence was a sign of respect and a reminder of his commitment to the well-being of the community. He also extended his heartfelt congratulations to the newly coronated clan head of Atan Onoyom.
The Councilor and Deputy Leader of the Odukpani Executive Legislative Council, Hon. Ita Ndem of Eniong Ward, also congratulated the newly installed clan head and extended greetings from other community leaders. He expressed gratitude to the governor for his continuous support and commended Hon. Ekpenyong for not only delivering the governor’s gifts but also for going the extra mile by contributing additional items to the community.
Hon. Ndem acknowledged the generosity and commitment shown by Hon. Ekpenyong, noting that while other Special Advisers may not have made the effort to personally visit their communities, Hon. Ekpenyong’s actions stood out as a true testament of leadership and dedication to the people. He further outlined the various gifts sent by the governor, including rice, fiber boats, engines, financial support, and other valuable items, stressing the importance of the governor’s ongoing support for the community.
The Special Adviser on Sports Development, Hon. Ekpenyong, also elaborated on the significance of the two boats donated to the Atan Onoyom community. One boat was provided by the government for each riverine ward, while the second boat was sponsored by the governor’s wife, Bishop Dr. Mrs. Eyoanwan Otu, through Mr. Kenneth Anam. This partnership enabled the community to receive two boats instead of just one.
Hon. Ekpenyong made it clear that the boats should never be sold, regardless of any circumstances. He emphasized that if the boats were sold or mishandled, appropriate actions would be taken, and the caretakers would be held responsible.
The Clan Head of Babom, Etinyin Francis Effiom Idim, expressed his gratitude to the governor for choosing their community as a beneficiary of such valuable gifts. He praised both the Councilor and Hon. Ekpenyong for their exemplary leadership and unwavering commitment to their people. His remarks highlighted the genuine love and leadership qualities both leaders had demonstrated through their actions.
The Family Head of Obio Yakedoho and Chieftain of the APC, Chief Effiong Ekott, delivered the vote of thanks, commending the governor, Hon. Ekpenyong, and other leaders for their kindness. He concluded his remarks by blessing them and expressing deep appreciation for the governor’s generosity.
This event served as a powerful reminder of the importance of community support, leadership, and collaboration in ensuring the welfare and development of local communities.
