Not Too Young To Lead

Recall that on the 30th of April, 2026 at the State Library Complex (The Glass House) as Youth community we were honoured with the presence of His Excellency Sen. Prince Bassey Otu, the Executive Governor of cross River State ably represented by his indefatigable Deputy Governor; His Excellency Rt. Hon. Peter Odey PhD.

Therein as part of the Grand Finale of our State wide Youth Unity & Assessment Tour, an idea was birthed and launched by His Excellency The Deputy Governor of Cross River State alongside The Prof. Anthony Owan Eno; the Secretary to the State Government, Barrister Orok Bassey Okon; Head of Service (HoS) Cross River State, Barr. Ijom Ukam-The Hon. Commissioner for Youth.

For us as Youth Community the “Not too young to lead initiative Is a powerful message that challenges the idea that leadership should only belong to older people. For many years, young people have been treated as if they are not fully prepared to participate in leadership nay politics, make important decisions, or represent communities. Yet young people experience the effects of government every day; through education policies, job opportunities, healthcare, security, and opportunities for growth. If those decisions shape our lives, then young people should also have a VOICE in making them.

To us, one reason this slogan matters is that it promotes fairness and opportunity. Age should not be the main barrier between talented young leaders and public office.

Support systems such as
📍mentorship
📍education
📍youth participation in decision-making

All of the above mentioned can help young leaders succeed just like they help older leaders. When young people are allowed to lead, it also encourages fresh ideas, creativity, and new solutions to old problems.

Another important point is that leadership is not only about age, it is about responsibility, character, and commitment. Many young people are already organizing communities, starting initiatives, campaigning for change, and speaking up for justice. These actions show that leadership can begin. EARLY.

By lowering age limits, improving access to political participation, Cut down on the cost of prosecuting aspirations, societies benefit because they include more perspectives and respond better to real needs.

In the end, “Not Too Young to Lead” is about believing in young people and giving them a chance to contribute. When youth are included in leadership, the future becomes brighter…not because young people are PERFECT, but because their ENERGY, IDEAS, and DETERMINATION can help build stronger and more inclusive societies.

Hence, we gather tomorrow to gain from the leadership experiences and journey of a select number of Young Leaders in this first Series.

The future is indeed….NOW, LETS GET INVOLVED.

See you All at the Youth House tomorrow 12th May, 2026from Mid day.

Let’s 🦜
