Official Visits by CR-SEMA and the Red Cross to the Calabar Fire Outbreak Site

CR-SEMA BOSS and Red Cross Official Visit Fire Outbreak Scene at Edibe Edibe By Abua Street, Calabar

Assures victims of government support.


The Director-General of the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) in Cross River State, Rev. Hon. James Anam alongside a representative from the Red Cross Society of Nigeria, in the early hours of today visited the scene of a devastating fire outbreak of a 11 rooms residential property at Edibe Edibe by Abua Street in Calabar.

The fire incidence, which occurred last night have left 44 individuals homeless and has caused extensive damage to properties in the area. The cause of the fire outbreak at the time of filling this report is unknown. However, investigations are currently underway to determine the cause of the incident.


During the visit, the DG SEMA and the Red Cross representative assessed the extent of damage as they interacted with the affected victims. They assured them of the government’s support in their recovery process. The victims were encouraged to remain hopeful as efforts are being made to provide them with the necessary assistance to caution the effect of the emergency.

Hon. Anam expressed deep concerns and sympathy for the affected families and promised that the government of Senator Prince Bassey Edet Otu will do everything within its powers to provide them with relief materials and other supports they may require.

The Cross River Branch Disaster Management Officer of Red Cross Society of Nigeria, Mr Agbor Oguoba also pledged the organization’s commitment to assisting the victims during this difficult time as he further charged residents to be cautious on safety measures to forestall further occurrences.

The DG SEMA and the Red Cross representative’s prompt visit to the scene of the fire outbreak in Edibe Edibe is a testament to the government’s commitment to the welfare of its citizens. The affected families can take solace in the fact that the government is working diligently to ensure that the brunt of this menace is duly cautioned and provide the necessary support.
