The Prince Otu Cup, a secondary school football tournament spanning all 18 Local Government Areas of Cross River State, has reached its semifinal stage, set to be played on November 13, 2024, at the UJ Esuene Stadium in Calabar. This competition, featuring both public and private secondary schools, has attracted growing support from Playcope and recognition across the state, including the backing of notable sponsors.
In a recent show of support, Playcope, a prominent brand dedicated to fostering sportsmanship and youth engagement, pledged its commitment to the ongoing Prince Otu Cup.
Playcope, recognizing the significance of this competition in promoting youth talent and community spirit, has added momentum to the tournament through a substantial financial contribution. The event is proudly sponsored by Senator Eteng Jones, who has championed youth sports development in the region.
A delegation from Playcope, led by team head Mr. Magnus, made an official visit to the office of the Special Adviser on Sports Development to the Cross River State Governor, Hon. Ekanem Ekpenyong.
During the visit, the Playcope team presented a donation of 1,000,000 Naira as a cash prize to further motivate and reward participants, as well as to help sustain the competition.
Hon. Ekpenyong expressed his gratitude to Playcope, acknowledging the importance of their investment in the state’s sports sector, particularly in fostering youth talent at the secondary school level. He emphasized that government efforts alone are not enough to fully support sports programs and that partnerships like this one are essential for providing visibility and resources for local athletes.
“With this support from Playcope, we’re able to ensure that the Prince Otu Cup gives visibility to this brand” Hon. Ekpenyong stated. “We encourage more brands to collaborate early, as we look forward to expanding this competition and strengthening youth sportsmanship across Cross River in the coming seasons.”
As the Prince Otu Cup semifinals approach, anticipation is building around which schools will advance and ultimately claim the title.
