The Vice Chancellor of the University of Cross River State (UNICROSS), Prof. Francisca Bassey, has reaffirmed the institution’s commitment to seeking divine guidance in its pursuit of academic excellence, institutional development, and ethical leadership.

Prof. Bassey made the remarks on Tuesday during the university’s monthly Prayer and Praise Session held at the Vice Chancellor’s Conference Room in Calabar.

Addressing members of staff and other participants, the Vice Chancellor stressed the importance of maintaining a close relationship with God and consistently committing the affairs of the university to Him through regular corporate prayers.

According to her, prayer has remained a cornerstone of the institution’s administration, providing strength and direction for the leadership, staff, students, and stakeholders as the university continues to navigate the evolving challenges within the education sector.

She further encouraged members of the university community to reflect godly values in their daily conduct and interactions, reminding them that humanity was created in the image and likeness of God and should therefore uphold integrity, harmony, and excellence in all endeavours.

As part of the programme, Prof. Bassey led participants in a vibrant session of praise and worship and reaffirmed the management’s resolve to continually seek God’s guidance in advancing the university’s vision.

Special prayers were offered for the Governor of Cross River State, Senator Prince Bassey Edet Otu, while thanksgiving prayers were also said for the Deputy Governor, Dr. Peter Odey, in celebration of his birthday.

Earlier in the event, the Registrar of the university, Dr. Catherine Osai, led prayers of thanksgiving, expressing gratitude to God for His protection, guidance, and the prevailing peace enjoyed across the institution’s campuses.

Delivering a sermon titled “The Propellant for God’s Visitation,” the Guest Minister, Pastor Ayang Umoren of God Wonders Service, highlighted prayer, holiness, thanksgiving, unity, and a genuine desire for God as essential ingredients for divine intervention and transformation.

Preaching from James 4:8, Pastor Umoren urged members of staff to uphold professionalism and integrity in the discharge of their responsibilities, cautioning against actions capable of undermining societal values and the university’s reputation.

He described UNICROSS as “God’s home” and expressed confidence in the leadership of Prof. Francisca Bassey, stating that the institution remains well-positioned to uphold sound ethical standards while producing graduates capable of making meaningful contributions to society.

The prayer session concluded with intercessions for the university, its management, staff, students, and stakeholders.

Participants described the gathering as spiritually uplifting and impactful, noting that the monthly prayer and praise sessions have become an important platform for spiritual renewal, encouragement, and collective reflection on the university’s mission and vision.
