An Anglican bishop has called on church leaders across Nigeria to speak out against bad governance, urging them to use their influence to promote accountability, justice, and ethical leadership.
The bishop, while addressing a gathering of clergy and church officials, stressed that religious leaders have a moral responsibility to hold those in power accountable. He warned that the church must not remain silent when corruption, mismanagement, and poor leadership negatively affect citizens.
According to him, the pulpit should serve not only as a source of spiritual comfort but also as a platform for truth and justice. He urged bishops, priests, and church institutions to demand transparency and good governance from public officials.
The bishop noted that bad governance contributes to poverty, insecurity, and social division, all of which affect the communities served by the church.
His appeal comes amid growing concerns over governance challenges across the country, with civil society organisations and other religious leaders also calling for greater accountability from those in authority.
The bishop’s remarks have renewed discussions about the role of the church in national affairs and its responsibility to promote ethical leadership. He urged fellow church leaders to move beyond words and support sustained efforts to improve governance and the welfare of citizens.
