The Supreme Court has upheld the nomination of Ekiti State Governor, Abiodun Oyebanji, as the All Progressives Congress candidate for the June 20 governorship election, bringing a legal challenge over the party’s primary to a close.
In a unanimous judgment delivered on Friday, a five-member panel of the apex court dismissed an appeal filed by APC governorship aspirant, Mrs. Abimbola Olawumi, ruling that the case lacked merit.
The court affirmed the earlier judgment of the Court of Appeal in Abuja, which had also upheld Oyebanji’s emergence as the party’s governorship candidate after dismissing Olawumi’s challenge.
Olawumi had contested the outcome of the APC governorship primary, urging the courts to nullify Oyebanji’s nomination. However, both the Court of Appeal and the Supreme Court found no legal basis to overturn his candidacy.
With the Supreme Court’s decision, the legal dispute over Oyebanji’s nomination has been conclusively settled, reaffirming him as the APC’s valid governorship candidate.
