An 18-year-old teenager, identified as Abdullahi Aminu, has drowned after reportedly falling into a pond at Kofar Gabas in Danbatta Local Government Area of Kano State.
The incident occurred on Tuesday afternoon, according to the Kano State Fire Service.
The Director of the Kano State Fire Service, Sani Anas, disclosed the incident in a statement signed by the service’s Public Relations Officer, Saminu Abdullahi, on Wednesday in Kano.
According to the statement, the fire service received a distress call from its Danbatta Fire Station at about 3:28 p.m. The call was reportedly made by the victim’s father, Aminu Lawan, who informed the station that his son had drowned in the pond.
Fire service personnel were subsequently mobilised to the scene to respond to the emergency.
The incident has left residents and the victim’s family mourning, while details surrounding how the teenager fell into the pond remain limited.
The fire service has continued to urge members of the public to exercise caution around ponds, rivers and other bodies of water, particularly during situations that could expose people to the risk of drowning.
