The Lagos State Police Command has launched an investigation into a viral video showing officers allegedly assaulting a gold seller in the Festac area of Lagos.
In a statement shared on its official X account on Saturday, the command confirmed that the officers seen in the footage had been identified as personnel attached to the Area E Command.
The incident reportedly occurred on Friday but drew widespread public attention after the victim posted videos online, alleging that he was attacked while delivering a gold necklace to a customer.
According to the gold seller, the officers stopped and searched him during the delivery. He claimed that although no illegal item was found in his possession, the officers questioned a digital weighing scale he explained was used in his gold business.
The viral videos sparked public reactions and calls for accountability, prompting the police to begin an internal investigation into the officers’ conduct.
The Lagos State Police Command assured the public that the matter was being thoroughly investigated and promised that appropriate action would be taken based on the outcome of the probe.
