The Lagos State Government has clarified that residents are free to move around during the monthly environmental sanitation exercise, dismissing claims that movement is restricted across the state.
The Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, made the clarification on Saturday in a post shared on his verified X account while responding to concerns raised by a social media user.
An X user identified as Faveo Autos had asked the commissioner about the penalty for moving during the sanitation exercise, alleging that someone had been arrested and taken to the Ikeja Police Station.
Responding to the inquiry, Wahab stated that there is no restriction on movement during the monthly environmental sanitation exercise in Lagos State.
His response comes amid recurring public confusion over whether the state still enforces movement restrictions during sanitation hours. The clarification indicates that while residents are expected to keep their surroundings clean and participate in environmental sanitation, they are not prohibited from moving around during the exercise.
The commissioner did not comment on the specific allegation regarding the reported arrest at the Ikeja Police Station.
