FG Launches Newly Built Toll Gates In Nigeria to Repay $460.8M China Loan
The Federal Government has officially commenced toll operations on the Abuja–Akwanga–Lafia–Makurdi road corridor to repay the $460.8 million loan secured from China Exim Bank for its rehabilitation and upgrade.
Motorists will now pay tolls ranging from N500 for saloon cars to N1,600 for multi-axle vehicles, while police and military vehicles are exempt. The toll gates are located in Keffi, Akwanga, Lafia, and Makurdi.
Minister of Works David Umahi, represented by Minister of State Bello Goronyo, reaffirmed the government’s commitment to maintaining federal roads through sustainable funding as FG Launches Newly Built Toll Gates In Nigeria to Repay $460.8M China Loan. He highlighted that toll revenue would support both loan repayment and road maintenance nationwide.
The project aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, aiming to build a robust infrastructure network. Additionally, frequent road users will receive a 50% discount, while tricycles, motorcycles, and other low-income transport modes are exempt from toll charges.
