Leaders Den Foundation Awards Scholarship to UNICAL First-Class Record Breaker

Written by calabarGist

The Founder of Leaders Den Foundation, Great Ogban, has officially awarded a Law School scholarship to Hukikat Usetu Godwin, a standout graduate who recently earned First Class Honours from the Faculty of Law at the University of Calabar.

The gesture comes as Hukikat, a native of Okrike in Biase Local Government Area, alongside Ignatius Ogabor Okplewu and Raphael Joy David, made history by becoming the first set of students to achieve First Class Honours in the faculty, breaking a 10-year record. Hukikat’s academic dominance began long before university; in 2019, she emerged as the Overall Best Student at the University of Calabar International Secondary School, notably outperforming her peers in the sciences to claim the top spot.

Hukikat maintains that her success in the Faculty of Law was the result of a deliberate and dedicated effort initiated in her first year. Looking ahead, she has outlined a strategic path for her legal career: her immediate priority is completing her Law School training before returning for the compulsory National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) year.

Speaking on the award, Ogban described the scholarship as a token of encouragement for Hukikat as she begins her journey to carve a niche within legal jurisprudence. He emphasised that the gesture aligns with the core mission of the Leaders Den Foundation: to nurture transformational leaders and drive positive societal contributions.

“Our objective is to identify and support excellence,” Ogban noted. “By investing in scholars who have demonstrated such resilience and academic prowess, we are contributing to the future of leadership in our society”.

Driven by a vision to bridge practice and theory, Hukikat intends to gain significant hands-on experience in the legal profession before eventually transitioning into academia as a lecturer. For her, the goal is clear: to establish herself as a standout practitioner before molding the next generation of legal minds.
