Former Director-General of the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP), Julie Okah-Donli, has alleged that some women fake pregnancies and later obtain babies to convince their husbands they have given birth.
Okah-Donli made the claim during an interview on the Kaa Truths Podcast, a clip of which resurfaced on Tuesday.
According to her, some women allegedly use steroids that trigger physical changes resembling pregnancy, including swollen faces and enlarged stomachs.
> “They are injected with steroids. Their faces become bloated, and their tummies grow very big. They appear pregnant, but they are not,” she claimed.
She further alleged that the women imitate pregnancy symptoms whenever their husbands are present and later present babies as their biological children after allegedly ensuring the husbands are away during the supposed delivery.
The former NAPTIP boss also claimed that some women undergo procedures to create scars similar to those from caesarean section surgeries in an attempt to make the deception appear authentic.
Okah-Donli called for maternity tests to be conducted alongside paternity tests in disputed cases, arguing that such measures could help investigators uncover cases of alleged baby trafficking.
She also alleged that some women claim to have delivered twins, triplets, or quadruplets, saying such claims make it easier to explain the sudden appearance of multiple babies.
The claims have not been independently verified, and Okah-Donli did not provide specific evidence or data during the interview to support the allegations.
