The political landscape in Osun State witnessed a fresh twist on Thursday as the senator representing Osun Central Senatorial District, Olubiyi Fadeyi, officially announced his return to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), months after leaving the party for the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Fadeyi disclosed his decision during a telephone interview, stating that he had formally notified the Senate of his defection.
According to the senator, he has aligned himself with the PDP faction led by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike.
> “I am back in the PDP led by the FCT Minister, His Excellency, Nyesom Wike. I have already written to the Senate,” Fadeyi said.
The development comes after Fadeyi’s unsuccessful bid to secure the APC ticket for the 2027 general election. He lost the party’s senatorial primary to Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), Adekunle Adegoke.
Fadeyi was among five National Assembly members who left the PDP for the APC in July 2025, a move that attracted significant political attention at the time. His return to the PDP marks another shift in Osun’s evolving political landscape ahead of the 2027 elections.
Political observers believe the defection could influence the balance of power within Osun Central Senatorial District, especially as political parties continue to reposition for the next general election.
