Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), on Wednesday held a private meeting with former President Olusegun Obasanjo, a development that has reignited discussions about political alignments ahead of the 2027 general election.
The meeting, which comes amid growing interest in Obasanjo’s possible influence in the build-up to the next presidential election, was revealed through photographs shared on X by Obi’s campaign photographer, Esther Umoh.
Sharing the images, Umoh simply wrote, “Earlier today, the presidential candidate of the NDC, Peter Obi, met with former President Olusegun Obasanjo.”
The photos showed Obi, dressed in a blue traditional outfit, walking alongside Obasanjo, who appeared in a white native attire with a blue patterned cap. The two leaders were also seen engaged in what appeared to be a cordial discussion.
Although neither Obi nor Obasanjo disclosed the purpose of the visit, the meeting has generated fresh speculation among political observers, especially as conversations surrounding the 2027 presidential election continue to gather momentum.
Obasanjo has remained a respected figure in Nigeria’s political landscape, with his endorsements and consultations often attracting nationwide attention. However, there has been no official statement indicating that the meeting was connected to any political endorsement or alliance.
