Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has expressed deep sorrow over the death of celebrated Hausa political singer, Muhammadu Buhari, widely known as Kosan Waka, who passed away on Sunday at the age of 47.
In a condolence message issued by the governor’s spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin-Tofa, Yusuf described the late singer as a gifted cultural icon whose songs inspired many and played a significant role in Kano’s political landscape over the years.
The governor extended his heartfelt condolences to Kosan Waka’s family, especially his mother, as well as his friends, admirers and the wider Hausa entertainment community. He also prayed for Almighty Allah to forgive the deceased’s shortcomings and grant him Aljannatul Firdaus.
According to the family, Kosan Waka will be laid to rest in his hometown of Tsanni, Batagarawa Local Government Area of Katsina State, at 5 p.m. on Sunday, in accordance with Islamic rites.
Kosan Waka was widely recognised across northern Nigeria for his powerful political songs and performances during election campaigns, earning him a reputation as one of the region’s most influential political praise singers. His death has drawn tributes from political leaders, supporters and fans, who remember him for his unique voice and lasting contributions to Hausa music and politics.
