Newcastle United have officially appointed Matthias Jaissle as their new head coach, bringing in the 38-year-old German to replace Eddie Howe ahead of the new Premier League season.
The Premier League club confirmed the appointment on Wednesday, ending weeks of speculation over who would succeed Howe following his departure.
Jaissle arrives at St. James’ Park after an impressive spell with Saudi Pro League side Al-Ahli, where he guided the club to domestic success and earned praise for his attacking style of football and ability to develop young players. Before joining Al-Ahli, he managed Austrian club Red Bull Salzburg, winning league titles and gaining recognition as one of Europe’s promising young coaches.
Speaking after his appointment, Jaissle described the opportunity as a dream come true.
“It is an incredible honour to become head coach of Newcastle United,” he said.
“This is one of the biggest clubs in European football, with a unique history, identity and supporter base, and I am excited to experience that passion and connection first-hand.
“When Newcastle United comes your way, you take notice. The ambition of the club, the vision for the future and the opportunity ahead made this an incredibly compelling place to be. I have followed the club’s journey closely in recent years and the progress that has been made is clear for everyone to see.”
Jaissle now faces the challenge of building on the foundation left by Eddie Howe, who guided Newcastle back into European competition and transformed the club into one of the Premier League’s top contenders during his tenure.
Supporters will be hoping the German tactician can continue the club’s upward trajectory as Newcastle prepare for another demanding campaign in both domestic and European competitions.
