Past APC Ward Chairmen Appeal to Governor Otu Over Non-Return of 75% Chairmen

Written by calabarGist

The immediate past Cross River State All Progressives Congress (APC) Ward Chairmen Forum, led by Mr. Franklin Egbai, has appealed to Governor Bassey Edet Otu to consider the interests and welfare of ward chairmen who were not returned during the recently concluded APC ward congress.

The forum, which represents former ward chairmen across the state, said about 75 per cent of the immediate past ward chairmen were not returned to their positions following the congress.

Speaking on behalf of the group, Franklin Egbai commended Governor Otu for what he described as his people-oriented leadership and commitment to the development of Cross River State.

According to him, the administration’s “People First” approach has brought positive changes to the state, adding that Cross River remains in capable hands under Governor Otu.

Egbai said the former ward chairmen accepted the outcome of the congress in the spirit of loyalty to the party and had remained patient, hoping that the administration would consider their contributions and welfare.“Your Excellency, it will please you to know that 75 per cent of the ward chairmen did not return at the just-concluded congress. Be that as it may, we are loyal to the party and have accepted the outcome,” Egbai said.

He explained that the former chairmen had deliberately remained calm while waiting for an opportunity to engage with the administration, expressing disappointment that they were yet to feel the impact of the “People First” government.

The forum further reminded Governor Otu that the ward chairmen played significant roles in mobilising support for the APC during the 2023 general elections and worked in accordance with the directives, rules and regulations of the party.

According to Egbai, their loyalty and grassroots mobilisation contributed to the emergence of the present administration, stressing that their contributions should not be forgotten.

The former ward chairmen therefore appealed to Governor Otu to consider ways of supporting those who were not returned, describing such a gesture as a way of appreciating their sacrifices and strengthening the party at the grassroots.

Quoting the Bible, Egbai said, “The labourer is deserving of his reward,” while urging the governor to extend the benefits of his administration to the affected former ward chairmen.

He said such consideration would not only provide a sense of belonging to the former chairmen but would also send a strong message to party members at the grassroots that loyalty, service and sacrifice are valued under the Otu administration.
