Osimhen’s Brace Sends Galatasaray Top After Derby Win Over Fenerbahce

Written by Mary Bassey

Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen delivered a match-winning performance on Monday as Galatasaray defeated rivals Fenerbahce 2-1 in a thrilling Turkish Super Lig derby.

The Super Eagles forward scored twice in the first half at RAMS Park in Istanbul, helping the hosts secure all three points in the ninth round of the league season.

Osimhen opened the scoring in the 29th minute after receiving a pass from Baris Alper Yilmaz before firing into the net to give Galatasaray the lead.

The 27-year-old striker struck again just before half-time, in the 44th minute, heading the ball into the net after Davinson Sanchez’s effort to extend his side’s advantage to 2-0.

Fenerbahce responded after the break and reduced the deficit in the 62nd minute through Irfan Can Kahveci, who scored with an acrobatic overhead kick.

The visitors pushed for an equaliser in the closing stages, but Galatasaray held firm to claim a 2-1 victory over their city rivals.

The result took Galatasaray back to the top of the Turkish Super Lig table with 22 points from nine matches, while Fenerbahce remained on 16 points.

Osimhen’s brace once again highlighted his importance to Galatasaray as the Turkish champions secured a crucial victory in one of Turkish football’s biggest rivalries.
