The Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS), Kano State Command, has arrested a 40-year-old man over an alleged attempt to smuggle suspected cannabis into a custodial facility in Kano State.
The suspect was reportedly intercepted around noon on Sunday while allegedly attempting to throw the prohibited substance into the Medium Security Custodial Centre, Kurmawa, Kano.
His arrest followed the discovery of the suspected illicit substance during the attempted entry into the correctional facility.
The Nigerian Correctional Service has continued to emphasise the need for strict security measures around custodial centres to prevent the introduction of prohibited items, including drugs and other contraband.
The suspect is expected to face further investigation to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident.
Further details about the suspect’s identity, the quantity of the suspected cannabis recovered and possible charges were not immediately available.
