Professor Florence Banku Obi, the Vice Chancellor of the University of Calabar, opened the event with a stirring speech, albeit through a representative. She emphasized the importance of professional counsellors in today’s rapidly evolving society and applauded CASSON and the departments for their commitment to equipping students with skills that would benefit communities across Nigeria.

Following the opening remarks, Professor P. N. Asuquo, Provost of the Cross River State College of Education, Akamkpa, delivered a thought-provoking lecture as part of the 2nd Induction and Oath-Taking session where he underscored the crucial role counsellors play in fostering mental health, guiding academic paths, and contributing to the broader societal welfare.

Taking the podium to accept the award, Dr. Mathias expressed profound gratitude to CASSON for the honour. With humility, he acknowledged the support of his colleagues, clients, and the larger university community, attributing his success to a shared vision of service and progress.

“I never knew that my little effort has been appreciated by this great association. This singular act of recognition demonstrated here today has simply taught me to put in more effort and work harder.”

The ceremony, a prestigious occasion in the Guidance and Counselling departments’ calendar, was attended by faculty members, students, alumni, and other distinguished guests, all gathered to honour the newest inductees into the counselling profession and to recognize contributions to the field.
