MTN CHAMPS 2024: Day 3 of the MTN CHAMPS Season 2 Grand Final

 

The Cadet (U14) Girls’ Final is won by Ufuoma Merit, an athlete from Delta Secondary School, on Day 3 of the MTN CHAMPS Season 2 Grand Final, which is taking place at the U.J. Esuene Stadium in Calabar.

She bested a strong group that included prior sub-13 runners. Ella Udumubrai placed third in 13.16 seconds, and Team MVP’s Ejiro Peter placed second in 12.98 seconds.

In the Cadet (U14) Boys’ 100m final, Destiny Reuben triumphed with a time of 12.41s (-1.9), just 0.01s slower than his fastest from the semifinals. David Umoh came in third in 13.06 seconds, and Darius Odebiyi came in second in 12.94 seconds.

Adaeze Eze won the gold medal in the youth girls’ category with a time of 12.64 seconds (-1.8). Success Okoro placed second with a time of 12.73 seconds, and Perezide Sigah took third place with a time of 12.76 seconds.

Expensive Gaius, on the other hand, demonstrated his superiority over the rest of the field by winning the Boys’ equivalent in 11.58 seconds (-1.4), defeating Progress Idoghor for Bronze and Kehinde Ojo for Silver in 11.88 seconds.

In the Junior Girls’ 100m final, Faith Osamuyi completely outran Rosemary Edet, winning in 12.29 seconds (-1.8). After winning their previous meeting in the Season 1 Grand Finale, Edet was forced to settle for third place in 12.56 seconds, while Miracle Ezechukwu earned the silver in 12.43 seconds.

Tejiri Godwin broke the MTN CHAMPS Record in the junior men’s event, finishing in an impressive 10.61 seconds (-1.6)! He defeated Caleb John in the final, shattering his previous record, and the latter had to settle for second place in 10.77 seconds. Team MVP finished 1-2-3 thanks to third-place finisher Sasere Taiwo, who ran 10.95 seconds.

Mercy Audu won the junior women’s 1500m championship with a time of 5:01.73, earning her second GOLD medal at the MTN CHAMPS Calabar. The day before, she had easily defeated the field in the 800 meters by a margin of 10 seconds. This time, nothing changed because she won by a minimum of 100 meters.

In the junior men’s 400-meter hurdles, Oseiwe Salami of Team MVP ran a well-organized race, winning in 53.83 seconds and finishing first behind Christian Dickson in 55.43 seconds; Uchechukwu Felix Obi finished third.

Emmanuel Salubi won the senior men’s event in 53.80 seconds.

Gafar Audu (Team MVP) had a great race, leading off from lane 1 and coasting to a commanding victory in 48.47 seconds for the 400 meters. Audu appeared to be the clear favorite and will likely go faster in tomorrow’s final.

Similar to this, Chioma Nwachukwu ran a very deep first heat in the Junior (U20) women’s 400 meters, winning in 53.84 seconds.

She finished considerably ahead of Team MVP A’s Comfort Sule, who was motivated to set a new personal best time of 55.68 seconds, just beating Uduak Udosoh’s 55.72 seconds. Miracle Sonny (55.79s), Divine Eke (55.80s), and Chiamaka Chukw-umeh (55.26s) were the other heat winners.

With a run of 52.04 seconds, Michael Aniche set the fastest record in the Youth Boys 400m. The Season 1 Grand Finale Silver Medallist appeared to have the largest frame at the moment in Calabar, and he will be hoping to convert his Silver to Gold. She will be joined by champions of their respective events, Believe Oghenewevgba (59.36s), Angel Eteng (60.39s), and Precious Awak (60.58s), among other competitors.

In the 400-meter Cadet Boys division, Again Best Okopor finished first and set a new Personal Best (PB) time of 57.28 seconds.

Praise Ugwushita led the girls’ race after seven heats with a timing of 62.50 seconds, ahead of Hephzibah Gabriel-Okon’s 63.04 seconds.
