The National Youth Service Corps has announced that all prospective corps members must obtain clearance through the National Electronic Registration Database (NERD) before they can be mobilised for national service.
The new directive was disclosed in a public notice shared on the scheme’s official X account on Monday as preparations continue for the next batch of prospective corps members.
According to the NYSC, NERD clearance has become a mandatory requirement for mobilisation, meaning eligible graduates who fail to complete the process will not be included in the mobilisation exercise.
The scheme advised prospective corps members to complete their NERD clearance as early as possible to avoid delays or last-minute challenges during the mobilisation process.
The announcement is part of ongoing efforts by the NYSC to strengthen its mobilisation procedures, improve record verification, and ensure that only duly cleared graduates are deployed for the mandatory one-year national service.
The NYSC also reiterated its commitment to the safety and welfare of corps members, urging prospective participants to follow official guidelines, especially when travelling to orientation camps. The scheme advised them to use approved motor parks, avoid night travel where possible, and remain alert throughout their journeys.
Prospective corps members are encouraged to monitor the NYSC’s official communication channels for further updates on mobilisation timelines, registration procedures, and orientation camp activities.
