Bassey Akiba was born on the 12th of December 1969 in Akpap Okoyong Odukpani local government Area
married to AsI Bassey with Velerie, Bassey,Charles and Derick as Children.
Akiba began his academic journey at Bishop King Memorial Primary School in Calabar, Cross River State, where he earned his First School Leaving Certificate with Merit in 1982.
He proceeded to Government Secondary School in Creek Town, Odukpani L.G.A, and obtained his Senior Secondary School Certificate with good grades in 1989.
Furthering his education, he attended IBB College of Agriculture in Ovonum, Obubra, Cross River State, graduating with a Distinction in Forestry Management in 1992.
He culminated his academic pursuits at the University of Calabar, where he earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Mathematics/Statistics, graduating with Second Class Upper Division honors in 1999.
Professional Experience:
Akiba’s professional career is marked by significant legislative and executive roles. He is currently serving as a Member of the House of Representatives, representing Calabar Municipality/Odukpani Federal Constituency. In this capacity, he is the Deputy Chairman of the Health Care Services Committee and membership in several other key committees, such as Public Accounts, FERMA, National Security and Intelligence, and Environment etc. In line with his constitutional mandate he has a lot of bills in his name,and has sponsored several motions and had conveyed many petitions from the citizens and his constituents to the House
From 2015 to 2019, Akiba served as a Member of the Cross River State House of Assembly, representing Odukpani State Constituency Preceded by Hon.Wilson Ekpenyong and succeeded by Hon. Francis Asuquo.A tenure that was highly celebrated by his constituents.
Earlier in his career, Akiba was the Chairman of the Odukpani Local Government Council from 2004 to 2010 Preceded by Barr. Eyo NSA Ekpo Succeeded by Barr.Stephen Asuquo. His tenure was marked by effective service delivery, enthroment of peace and security, and infrastructural development.
Before this, Akiba as Personal Assistant to the Honourable Commissioner for Agriculture and Works contributed to the agricultural and Infrastructural Revolution of the State.Cross River
Community Engagement:
Akiba is the founder of the Bassey Akiba Foundation(BAF), a vehicle he is using to drive home is programmes and projects, with focus on improving the socio-economic conditions of Calabar Municipality and Odukpani Federal Constituency.
Interests and Extracurricular Activities
Bassey Akiba is passionate about poverty reduction,urban and rural development, and effective legislative practice that will engender growth and development.
His extracurricular activities include teaching, advocacy, mentoring , workout and reading.
