Utibe Abasi Bassey Duke SA Gender Mainstreaming Speak to Female Students on Leadership

 

The SA to the Governor on Gender Mainstreaming, Utibe-Abasi Bassey-Duke was invited as a guest speaker at the Biochemistry Department, University of Calabar seminar tagged \” A Lady and More\”.

Utibe-Abasi Bassey-Duke stated that there is a need for women to take up leadership positions so that the rights and needs of the woman can be addressed at the front burner.
Utibe-Abasi went further to list qualities of a woman leader which include: confidence, empathy, networking, innovation, and a good sense of humour.

In an interactive session, Utibe-Abasi led the students to identify some of the challenges to being in leadership. Students voiced the following: Fear, lack of time management skills, lack of leadership skills, lack of parental support and the like.

Utibe-Abasi provided advice to students a
on how to manage these challenges.  She also addressed the need for women to support women and also the men to see their female counterparts as their allies and that the men need to support a woman and create a favourable environment to thrive as leaders.

She ended by encouraging the ladies to have confidence and believe in themselves. She stated that confidence should be their best accessory.
