The wife of Abia State Governor, Mrs Priscilla Otti, has provided N20 million in financial assistance and food items to 400 women living with disabilities in the state.
The support was presented on Friday during an outreach programme organised for women with disabilities in Umuahia, the Abia State capital.
The intervention, according to the governor’s wife, was aimed at helping beneficiaries cope with economic difficulties and providing practical assistance to women who face additional challenges because of their disabilities.
Otti, who is the founder of the Safe Tent Care Initiative, said the programme reflected her commitment to supporting vulnerable members of society and promoting inclusion.
She stressed the importance of ensuring that women living with disabilities are not left behind in efforts to improve the welfare and economic wellbeing of citizens.
The beneficiaries received financial support alongside food items as part of the outreach.
The initiative comes amid growing calls for greater inclusion of persons with disabilities in social and economic programmes. In Abia, Mrs Otti has also been associated with advocacy around the rights and protection of women with disabilities, including efforts connected to the state’s gender-based violence framework.
The outreach is expected to provide immediate relief to the beneficiaries while complementing broader efforts to improve the welfare of vulnerable groups across the state.
