Cross River State youths from a variety of organizations and groups, including the National Youth Council of Nigeria, student unions, and affiliate organizations, came together to walk around some of Calabar\’s main streets in a show of unity and to voice some of their most pressing needs to the government in an atmosphere of ecstasy, splendor, and reverberating energy.
The event was themed \”100 Days of Sweetness Youth Week\” in honor of Sen. Prince Bassey Edet Otu, governor of the state, who was ably represented by His Excellency, Rt. Hon. Peter Odey. Comrade Dan Obo, the chairman of the National Youth Council of Nigeria\’s Cross River State Chapter, expressed his gratitude for the governor\’s careful management of the state\’s affairs during his 100 days in office.
Comr. Dan Obo went on to state that this is a first in the history of political dynamics in order to further demonstrate his unbounded excitement of the state that the ministry of youths Development is being saddled and or shepherd by a youth; noting that Barr Ijom Ukam is undoubtedly a round peg in a round hole as demonstrated by his past and present records.
Comr Akpeke Peter, president of NACRISS-WW, praised His Excellency for supplying his government with young people who are enthusiastic and resourceful, saying that they won\’t let him down and will instead use their skills and vigor to help the government fulfill its \”People\’s First mandate.\” The reading and presentation of a communique to Sen. Prince Bassey Edet Otu, the governor of Cross River State, was the highlight of the event.
Barr. Ijom Ukam, the honorable commissioner for youth development, welcomed the young people with open arms and expressed his appreciation for their creativity and resourcefulness in planning such a magnificent event to celebrate His Excellency\’s 100 sweet days in office. He added that the administration had taken note of the recommendations and demands made by the youth in their statement.His Excellency has a plan and policy trust that is based on removing the teeming youths of Cross River State from those conditions that spawned socioeconomic and sociopolitical vices like drugs, robbery, kidnapping, internet fraud, prostitution, and many others. He however assured the youths of His Excellency\’s resolve to place the youths first in her developmental plans.
In addition to the governor\’s chief of staff, Mr. Emmanuel Ironbar, the SA Special Duties, Barr Bassey Akiba, and other dignitaries, His Excellency, the Deputy Governor of Cross River State, Rt. Hon. Peter Odey, who represented the governor, His Excellency *Sen. Prince Bassey Otu, warmly thanked the youths for their solidarity. He noted that this government is their government and that when one says \”People\’s.The governor continued by assuring the youths that during his administration\’s \”season of sweetness,\” students will benefit from grants, scholarships, skill-acquisition trainings, employment, and—most importantly—a peaceful environment for them to realize their potentials. He ended by grinning and wishing the youths, teeming Cross Riverians, and her friendly visitors well in the spirit of solidarity.
