2024 Leboku: Bassey Akiba Message to Yakurr indigenes

The House of Representatives Member, representing Calabar Municipality/Odukpani Federal Constituency, Rep Bassey Akiba, has extended his heartfelt felicitations to the Yakurr indigenes residing in Calabar Municipality/Odukpani Federal Constituency on the occasion of the 2024 Leboku International New Yam Festival.

In a statement, Rep. Bassey Akiba described the internationally acclaimed New Yam Festival as a vibrant cultural celebration of the Yakurr people, showcasing their rich heritage and traditions.

He highlighted the significance of the festival in strengthening social bonds and fostering unity among the Yakurr people in particular and society at large, as they come together to share in the joy and festivities.

While commending the Cross River State Government for putting the cultural fiesta on the global map, he posited that the much touted New Yam Festival has remained a kaleidoscope of colours, sounds, and flavours, weaving a cultural tapestry that reflects the Yakurr people’s identity and spirit.

“The festival is not only a time for celebration but also for strengthening community bonds and passing on cultural values to the younger generation”, Rep. Bassey stated.
