In the countdown to the 2027 general elections, one of the most defining decisions for the people of Obudu/Bekwarra/Obanliku Federal Constituency (OBO) will be who they choose to represent them at the National Assembly. Beyond party affiliations and political rhetoric, the conversation must now focus on competence, equity, integrity, and grassroots connection. By all indications, one man fits this profile perfectly: Dr. Godwin Adaje Agbor.
Dr. Agbor, a seasoned medical doctor, humanitarian, and political mobilizer, is not new to the people of Cross River North. His name commands respect across communities, not because of money or title, but because of his unwavering commitment to the welfare of the ordinary person. As Medical Director of Omega Clinic and Maternity in Okundi, Boki, and with another branch in Katchuan Irruan, he has impacted lives across local government boundaries serving thousands, often free of charge, with compassion and competence. He is a professional who has spent more time in underserved communities than many elected officeholders.
Yet beyond his achievements in medicine and community development lies a burning political question that the people of OBO must address: Whose turn is it to produce the next federal representative?
A look at the zoning history reveals a clear pattern:
• Hon. Dr. Mike Ogar (bekwarra) – 1999–2003
• Rt. Hon. Paul Adah (Obudu) – 2003–2011
• Rt. Hon. Frank Adah (Obanliku) – 2011–2015
• Rt. Hon. Legor Idagbor (Bekwarra) – 2015–2023
• Hon. Peter Akpanke (Obanliku) – 2023–2027 (Incumbent)
By 2027, fairness and the spirit of rotational representation dictate that the slot returns to Obudu, which has not produced a federal lawmaker since 2011. The principle of zoning is not just a political arrangement; it is a tool for unity and inclusiveness in a diverse constituency. It is time to respect that principle and rally around a competent Obudu son with proven grassroots appeal — Dr. Godwin Agbor.
Dr. Agbor’s political pedigree is not accidental. He emerged victorious in the APC primaries to represent Obudu in the Cross River State House of Assembly in 2022, defeating more established opponents. But he was denied the ticket through machinations that many believed were politically motivated. Rather than abandon the system, he chose to remain loyal to the party, the people, and the process.
He is no stranger to party-building either. As the pioneer Ward Secretary of the All Peoples Party (APP) in Utugwang South, he donated the party’s first ward office structure. During the APC revalidation exercise in 2021, Dr. Agbor was a key supervisor. He also organized one of the largest APC rallies in Obudu when the former governor defected to the party, a move that significantly boosted the party’s visibility in the region. His loyalty, consistency, and contributions to the APC make him more than qualified to fly the party’s flag in 2027.
Dr. Agbor has paid his dues, politically and socially. His humanitarian work has earned him recognition from the Catholic Men Organization (CMO) and numerous civil society groups. He has built and repaired roads abandoned by government, funded free medical outreaches, and continuously engaged with community-based associations and students’ groups.
He is also deeply rooted in the people. From his time with the Utugwang Students Association to the Obudu Students Association Worldwide, and the Calabar University Medical Students Association (CUMSA), his leadership and service-oriented style has remained consistent. He is one of the few aspirants whose popularity is not manufactured, but earned over decades of community service.
In a time when Obudu deserves meaningful representation at the federal level; someone who will not just occupy space but draw down developmental benefits for health, youth empowerment, infrastructure, and education — Dr. Godwin Agbor is the people’s best bet.
Married and blessed with children, he is also a devout Christian and a Knight of the Catholic Church, bringing with him not only competence but character, a rare blend in today’s political environment.
As 2027 approaches, the people of OBO Federal Constituency have a historic choice to make. Let that choice reflect fairness. Let it reflect gratitude. Let it reflect capacity. Let it reflect grassroots trust. Let it reflect Dr. Godwin Adaje Agbor.
