35 academic staffs have been promoted to professor and Associate Professor in the University of Calabar

The University of Calabar under the management of her 11th substantive Vice Chancellor, Prof. Florence Banku Obi has announced the elevation of 35 Academic Staff to Professors and Associate Professors in the citadel of learning.

Obi disclosed this on Monday, June 19, 2023 at the 234th Senate Meeting of the University at the School Senate Chambers.

However, of the 35 staff, 13 were promoted to Professors while 22 were promoted to Associate Professors.

The 13 promoted to the rank of a professor are;

1. Dr Basil Akwuegwu (Edu Management).
2. Dr Bob Mgbeje (Biochemistry).
3. Dr Emon Duke (Nursing Science).
4. Dr Oluwatosin Kennedy (Animal Science).
5. Dr Mary Sule (Education Management).
6. Dr Joseph Ogar (Philosophy).
7. Dr Item Atanghwo (Biochemistry).
8. Rev. Fr. (Dr) Imo Obot (Educational Foundation).
9. Dr Ephraim Ikegbu (Philosophy).
10. Dr (Mrs) Aniefiok Edet (Educational Management).
11. Dr (Mrs) Josephine Nanjwan (Special Education).
12. Dr Emmanuel Bassey Eyo (Philosophy).
13. Dr Mesembe Edet (Philosophy) – posthumous.

The 22 staff promoted to the tank of Associates Professor are;

1. Dr Edor Edor (Philosophy).
2. Rev. Fr. (Dr) Godfrey Ukpabio (Educational Management).
3. Dr (Mrs) Usen Mbon (Educational Management).
4. Dr Ekpenyong Ekanem (Educational Management).
5. Dr Ajigo Ikutal (Vocational Education).
6. Dr (Mrs) Bernadine Ekpenyong (Public Health).
7. Dr Peter Ubi (Economics).
8. Engr. (Dr) Fina Faith-Praise Otosi (Computer Engineering).
9. Dr (Mrs) Albert Nsemo (Nursing Science).
10. Dr Ncha Bubu (Philosophy).
11. Dr Idang Ojong (Nursing Science).
12. Dr Pauline Ekpang (Guidance/Counselling).
13. Dr Chiaka Denwigwe (Guidance/Counselling).
14. Dr Love Asor (Continuing Education & Development Studies).
15. Dr (Mrs) Nkereuwem Ukpong (Educational Management).
16. Dr Emmanuel Ikwen (Special Education).
17. Dr (Mrs) Eme Effiong (Accounting).
18. Dr Joseph Asuquo (Orthopaedics & Traumatology).

20. Dr Joseph Ajor (History & International Studies).

On the other hand, the University on a separate letters from the institution\’s Registrar, Mr Gabriel Egbe terminate appointment of 20 Graduate Assistants.

This was in accordance with Section 3.9.3 (iv) of the 2014 Regulations Governing the Condition of Service of staff of the University of Calabar.

The section stipulates that: “if a Graduate Assistant fails to obtain a Master’s degree after four (4) years, the appointment of the said staff shall be terminated”.

Meanwhile, all affected staff are said to have spent between five to nine years post-appointment without evidence of having acquired a Master’s Degree within the period of their engagement.

5: Ucheji Ojuigo Nancy – Mechanical Engineering.

6: Onwe Peter Daffin – Electrical & Electronics Engineering.

7: Adie Anthony Unimke – Geology.

8: Nnenna Williams Afamuefuna – Human Anatomy.

9: Okoro Bernard Chibueze – Microbiology.

10: Eze Ohara Enyinyi – Physics.

11: Udo Nsibiet Enefiok – Mathematics.

12: Udeze Leonard Chinedu – Computer Science.

13: Adie John Betiang – Vocational Education.

14: Ikpo Patrick Andelehe – Social Science Education.

15: Edet Itam Ben – Human Kinetics.

16: Nkanu Celestine Uno – Curriculum and Teaching.

17: Samson Cyprian Ushie – Curriculum and Teaching.

18: Chukwu Chukwe Agube – Curriculum and Teaching.

19: Adah Pius Obua – Genetics and Biotechnology.

20: Samuel Edem Okon-Edem – Genetics and Biotechnology.

Affected staff are to return all properties belonging to the University in their possession to their respective Head of Department and tender evidence of indebtedness by the bursary and the University Librarian before their final disengagement.
