Nasarawa Fire Service Reveals Over 80 Emergency Calls Responded To in 2026

The Federal Fire Service in Nasarawa State says it has responded to more than 80 emergency calls involving fire outbreaks and other rescue operations across the state between January and September 2026.

The state Controller of the Federal Fire Service, Eno Nwachukwu, disclosed this on Friday in Lafia, the Nasarawa State capital, during the command’s fire safety sensitisation and enlightenment campaign ahead of the Ember months.

Nwachukwu said the emergency responses had helped the service save lives and protect property, while urging residents to take fire prevention and safety measures seriously, particularly during the festive period when fire incidents often increase.

The campaign was organised to educate residents on ways to prevent fire outbreaks, respond appropriately during emergencies and reduce the risk of loss of lives and property.

The Ember months campaign was themed, “Fire Safety, Emergency Evacuation and Practical First Aid Fire Fighting Drill.”

The programme also featured practical demonstrations aimed at improving participants’ knowledge of emergency evacuation procedures and basic firefighting techniques.

Nwachukwu encouraged residents, business owners and other stakeholders to remain vigilant, avoid practices that could trigger fire outbreaks and promptly report emergencies to the appropriate authorities.

The Federal Fire Service has repeatedly advised the public to avoid overloading electrical sockets, handle cooking appliances and other heat sources carefully, and ensure that flammable materials are properly stored.

Residents were also urged to keep fire extinguishers and other basic firefighting equipment where necessary and ensure that emergency exits remain accessible.

The command said continued public awareness and early response remained important in reducing the impact of fire emergencies across Nasarawa State.
