Born in Glasgow, Scotland, and raised in Calabar, Engr. Coco-Bassey embodies both global exposure and deep local roots. His early return to Nigeria at the age of three, driven by his parents’ patriotic commitment, laid the foundation for a lifelong connection with the people and culture of Cross River State, particularly his home in Calabar South Local Government Area.
His academic journey reflects discipline, excellence, and a relentless pursuit of knowledge. Beginning at Bishop King Memorial Primary School and Duke Town Secondary School, he proceeded to obtain a Higher National Diploma in Electrical and Electronic Engineering before advancing to the University of Port Harcourt, where he earned a Bachelor of Engineering degree. He further distinguished himself with a Master’s degree in Control Systems Engineering, an MBA from the University of East London, and a PhD in Communication Engineering. He is also a registered member of the Nigerian Society of Engineers.
Professionally, Engr. Coco-Bassey has built an impressive global career, working with multinational corporations across more than 30 countries. As a Project Assurance Lead within the Security, Strategy and Investment division of a leading multinational firm, he has consistently demonstrated capacity in leadership, risk management, and high-level project delivery, skills widely seen as critical to effective governance.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, he is a renowned humanitarian and philanthropist. As Chairman of the Coco Bassey Foundation and current President of the Calabar Forum in the United Kingdom and Ireland, he has championed initiatives focused on improving access to quality education and uplifting disadvantaged children in Cross River State.
