Bassey Akiba Defect to APC move with over 8,000 supporters to the party
In a powerful demonstration of unwavering support, over 8,000 enthusiastic supporters and political defectors gathered on December 9, 2024, at the Mainbowl of the Cultural Centre Complex in Calabar for the official declaration of Rep. Bassey Akiba’s membership in the All Progressives Congress (APC). The event, marked by a carnival-like atmosphere, saw a vibrant mix of cultural groups, organizations, and APC faithful converging at Mary Slessor Roundabout, dressed in colorful attire and cheering passionately for Akiba and the APC.
Opening the proceedings, Hon. Patrick Asikpo Okon, who represented the National Chairman, State Chairman of APC, and Governor Bassey Otu, warmly welcomed Rep. Akiba to the APC fold, highlighting his notable political journey and contributions. Party leaders, including High Chief (Prof) Eyo Etim Nyong, Chairman of Odukpani LGA, Rt. Hon. Etim Asido, and other key party figures, praised Akiba’s exceptional leadership, dedication to progressive ideals, and service to his constituents.

He presented his track record of achievements, including the Livelihood Support Programme (Cooperative Scheme), the 50 Million Educational Support Programme, Health Insurance and Medical Outreach, and other transformative initiatives, reaffirming his commitment to improving the lives of his constituents.
The highlight of the event was the formal presentation of Rep. Bassey Akiba as a legitimate member of APC, led by Mr. Victor Emmanuel, Chairman of the Akamkpa Ward APC.
