Bassey Akiba Sanitation Drive Gains Momentum In Calabar Municipality

In a remarkable show of solidarity and civic responsibility, residents of Wards 1, 2, 3, 4, 8, 9, and 10 in Calabar Municipality turned out in large numbers today to participate in the ongoing environmental sanitation exercise championed by the Honourable Member representing Calabar Municipality/Odukpani Federal Constituency, Rep. Bassey Akiba.

Though Rep. Akiba was unavoidably absent, his vision and commitment to a cleaner, healthier Calabar Municipality resonated powerfully with the people as his Ward Liaison Officers and Aides took charge of leading the exercise. Armed with rakes, shovels, brooms, and refuse bags, residents cleared blocked drainages, swept streets, and disposed of waste in an atmosphere of unity and determination.

The massive turnout is a testament to the deep trust and inspiration Rep. Akiba has instilled in his constituents, proving that true leadership transcends physical presence. The sanitation drive, which has now become a popular movement, continues to gather momentum and win widespread commendation from community leaders, youth groups, and ordinary residents alike.

Participants noted that the initiative is not only restoring the beauty of Calabar but also fostering a sense of shared responsibility and collective action in safeguarding public health and the environment.

The residents, visibly excited, remarked: “This exercise has gone beyond politics. Rep. Bassey Akiba has shown us that when leaders lead by example, the people will gladly follow. Even in his absence, we are here to continue what he started.”

Rep. Akiba has consistently maintained that keeping the environment clean is not the exclusive duty of government, but a collective responsibility for all. Today’s impressive turnout, despite his absence, reaffirms that his message has truly taken root in Calabar Municipality.

The sanitation drive continues to stand as a symbol of servant leadership and community action, positioning Calabar Municipality as a shining example of what is possible when the people and their representative work hand in hand for the common good.
