How it started:
This is an inspiring journey of Blessed, a 7-year -old primary one school child who was found by Ideba Edu Ele, Founder of Bonnicare Foundation with sores on her head, dripping in pus with flies hovering all around her head while struggling to write in class.
The Story of Hope:
Blessed, who resides in Igbo Imabana Community, under Abi Local Government Area in Cross River State has been burdened with this painful and debilitating condition of dermatitis on her head for over four months.
With no available parent figure, her grandmother and twin brothers who could barely afford to provide two square meals had no way of affording the proper medical care she needed.
Medical Care
Moved by Blessed\’s plight, Bonnicare Foundation extended a helping hand by immediately taking her to the General Hospital where she had access to top-notch medical treatment plan that significantly improved her condition.
A New Home
Bonnicare Foundation went above and beyond having realized that the poor living condition of Blessed home was a direct cause of the infections on her head. This led to a fundraise on all our social media platforms to help make \”Project Blessed\” a reality.
We took the intervention a step further by erecting a Two bedroom apartment with a kitchen, bathroom and a flushing water system to help improve their standard of living from defecating in a deplorable locally constructed toilet, sleeping on wrappers and torn pieces of clothing on plain muddy floor to having a brand new home.
None of these would have been possible without the kind donations of our Donors.
During the building of their new home, the family had to deal with their leaking thatch roof while it rained. We had to work round the clock, we brought Toiletries, Dettol, Foodstuff, New wrappers and cash support for them to hold unto while the building was ongoing.
We encountered different challenges during the building stage, wrong materials were brought in, argument on prices of items, disagreement with workers on specifications etc. Achieving our goal of setting up the building in 3 Months was far from easy.
With numerous cases of land and house grabbing, we thought it wise to protect the children from anyone who would make any attempt to throw them out or claim the property in future.
We are beyond grateful to announce that Basic Rights Law Partners, an arm of Basic Rights Counsel Initiative, Calabar handled all legal proceedings and documentation PRO-BONO ( Free of charge)
This is a testament to their commitment to protecting the Right\’s of Women and Children.
The apartment now permanently belongs to Blessed Kelly Arong and her twin brothers Vodina Eleke Agbong and Evalsam Eleke Agbong FOR LIFE.
Project Blessed is not just about \”Blessed\” story; it\’s about inspiring others to make a difference in their immediate communities.
